About Me
I chose to name my business Cura Counseling in celebration of my biological mother’s Hispanic* heritage. I am mixed race (Black and Hispanic American) and I was adopted at birth and raised in a culturally Jewish family. I grew up in Washington, DC and I have also lived in southern California and South America.
In graduate school, I trained as a family therapist. Currently, I work mainly with young to mid-career professionals. They seek my support with addressing life stage changes and transitions such as starting a first job after college or graduate school, managing work and life demands and pressures, as well as managing relationships of all kinds.
I also have expertise in addressing the needs of people who are bereaved. I am passionate about supporting clients as they learn to live with loss. I assist them with developing the skills, tools, and practices that will allow them to continue to enjoy satisfying and joy-filled lives even as they grieve.
Everyone deserves to be seen and to have their life story witnessed. Grief and feelings of loss need to be expressed out loud – whether through talking, creating or moving one’s body – as humans we benefit from remembering, celebrating, and making meaning from the death and loss of those we have loved and who have loved us.
I look forward to hearing your story, working with you, and walking alongside you as you discover what you need to lead a healthy and meaningful life.
I use the word ‘Hispanic’ because I do not know my maternal biological family’s country of origin.
